Welcome to our re-homing page.

Whitehall Dog Rescue was set up by Brian Wheelhouse in 1992 after finding out that stray and unwanted dogs collected by dog wardens or handed in to the police had a very short time to live if they didn't find a home. The dogs were taken to private kennels who had the contracts with police and dog wardens. The dogs were put on hold for 7 days and if a new owner could not be found in this time, the dogs were put to sleep.

Brian ran a motorcycle and car sales business in Leeds and decided to try and help the plight of these poor unwanted dogs, so he converted part of his showroom and built in kennels to accommodate his new guests. A licence was sought from Leeds City council to make sure kennels came to specification. These kennels were used right up to 2004 and helped saved the lives of hundreds of dogs.

The decision was made to close the car sales business as the dog rescue was taking 99% of the time. So Brian relocated to a farm in East Ardsley in Wakefield (nr Leeds) where he continues to rescue dogs from death row.

Re-homing Policy

We welcome potential adoptees from any part of country and indeed we have re-homed abroad.

Home for all our dogs are vetted either by ourselves or friends around the country.

All our dogs are neutered whether male or female. We also fully vaccinate and micro-chip them and of course they have had deflea treatment & wormers.

We ask that all those who will be living and caring for the new dog to come and meet our dog at our premises and bring with you any dogs that you already own. We have a 4 acre field where we can introduce your dog and our dog to see if everyone gets along.

If all goes well and everyone seems happy with each other (both dogs and humans) then we will schedule a home visit.

Hi! My name is Will !!

Will is a male Lurcher type dog that is approx 4yrs old & he is medium sized.

Will was abandoned by is former owner & was due to be destroyed at the holding kennels.

He was a very sad & confused Dog when he first came in, but now he has fully regained his confidence.

He loves people of all ages to the point that he would stand & receive attention as long as you are willing to stand there & give him attention (I bet you'll get bored before he does!!)

He loves to play with other dog's, (most find it difficult to keep up with him as he is very very fast!).

Will is not suitable around Cat's or Rabbit's etc. (He can jump tall fences to get to them) So Will needs a home where this wouldn't be a problem.

Hi! My Name is Monty!!

Monty is a beautiful rottweiler cross St Bernard.
He is approx 6yrs old & about the same size as a St Bernard.

He loves people of all ages.

Monty was collected from the stray kennels on his final day
when he was due to be put to sleep, He had been brought in by the Dog Warden
after been found straying.

Monty would be better as an only pet or with other Dog/s that he would be able to get use to.
(at 1st he can be a bit bossy because other Dog's tend to try & nip him on his nose because of is size!)

Monty is not suitable with Cat's or Rabbit's etc.

If you have a home that would accommodate this size of Dog

Hi! I'm called Heidi!!

Update- 5/11/09 Heidi is still with us & looking for a home that will not need to leave her by herself for long periods of time. Sorry to people that are out working all day but Heidi is a young active dog & needs that extra time to be spent with her.

Heidi is a young female dog that was born in December 08. She was obtained from someone that had let their dog have pups (11 Pups) then
he had given her to someone that had not checked with his landlord as to whether he was allowed to keep a dog in the property that he was renting from him.
(& the answer was NO!) Hence Heidi was left without a home!

Heidi was a very timid puppy when she came into us but is now making up for lost time as she is now very confident with both People & Dog's.
She will be below medium size when fully grown & needs to go to a home with Lot's of time to give her & we would prefer a home with another Dog
as she has spent a lot of her time here at the Rescue with a Dog called Tia (See Tia's Profile) hence she loves having canine companionship!

HI! Our names are Henry & Holly!!

Hi! My name is Holly & our kid's name is Henry. We are both approximately 2 years old & believe it or not we are brother & sister.
We both loved our owners before we came to Whitehall Dog Rescue but sadly they didn't give us very much food, so we started to lose an awful lot of weight & my Brother Henry gave up eating all together
& I was worried I was going to have to live my life without him. (see photo of Henry when he first arrived at Whitehall).
It was a worrying time because when we were rescued I had to watch Henry been hand fed to help him gain his strength & to help get him back to the strong healthy dog that he is today.
My former owners had let me have two litters of puppies (22 between the two litters) but sadly only 4 survived because I didn't have enough food to feed myself let alone to provide for my puppies.
I only knew my puppies for a very short time because my owners let them go to other people at 4 weeks old.
Me & Henry don't have to worry about having puppies anymore because we have both had an operation to stop all that.
Despite what we have both been through we still love everybody & get on well with other dog's.

Hi! My name is Ringo!!

Ringo is a male mongrel Dog That is approx 3 years old, He is medium sized & is very friendly with Dog's & people.

Ringo was found wandering the street's & was in a poor state when he was brought in, he has now fully recovered & now is a very happy go lucky dog!

He gets his name Ringo because we think he looks like a Dingo - "Ringo the Dingo!!"

Bubby is an American Bull Dog that is approx 5 years old.

The home for Bubby must be pet free & child free home even though he lived with children & has not shown any problems at all with children. He is a big love-able softy really!

Also experience of the Breed is a must as these are a powerful breed & must be looked after in a responsible manner.

Hi My Name Is Barney!

I am a male Staffordshire Bull Terrier that is approximately 5 years old. I am always sad when I hear people say that Staffordshire Bull Terriers are nasty with people
because I Love people young or old. I need to go to a home with older children or no children because I can get a bit giddy & cant help myself jumping up at the little folk
& knocking them over!!
I can be Funny with other dogs when I meet them for the first time but I have now been neutered & I seem to be getting better as time goes on.
(I go out with some of my canine mates at the Rescue!) I don't like that Bubby though cos he looks at me in a funny way!!
I am fully house trained & I'm not destructive & look after my lovely soft bed that I have at the Rescue.

Hi! Our Names Are Dodger & Digger!

Me & my best mate Digger are two neutered males. Digger is a Border Collie cross & I am a Alsatian cross Collie.
We have grown up together with our owners & their children but sadly they have now moved abroad & we are in need of a new home.
We would love for someone to take us both under their wing because we would miss each other if we were to be parted.
We are approx 7 yrs old & very fit & healthy & we are told by Whitehall Dog Rescue that we are a pleasure to look after.

Hi! My Name Is Max!!

I am a male Lakeland Terrier cross that is medium sized & I am 18 months old.
I am very friendly & love playing with other Dog's.
I also love chasing a ball & could do it all day long so I would be the perfect Dog if you wanted
to take me to Flyball.
I love everybody but I would need to go to a home with no children or with children of 14yrs upwards because I'm a typical Terrier & I play rough!!

Hi! My Name Is Rocky!!

I am a male mongrel Dog that is about the same dimensions as a corgi.
I am approximately 7yrs old & in good health.
Sadly my owner has been taken into care & I was sent to kennels were I was going to be put to sleep.
I am very loyal & love walking at the side of the person that is caring for me.
I might have "sawn off" Legs but I will walk as far as the Big Dog's!!
I missed my owner so much when he had to go, but I have now realised that I have to move on because he can't come back for me but I promise I will love you just as much.
