RSPCA Tameside and Glossop Branch

There are approximately 160 Branches of the RSPCA and every Branch is slightly different from its neighbours. Branches operate their own animal welfare programmes, which run "in tandem" with the National Society. Each branch raises its own funds and manages its own affairs. The Tameside and Glossop Branch doesn't employ paid staff but raises money to fund the private boarding of animals brought in by RSPCA Inspectors until they can be rehomed and to help people living in our area and in financial need to access emergency veterinary treatment and neutering for their animals.

We cover a small corner of Derbyshire in addition to Greater Manchester and are able to rehome outside our area, although priority is given to those living in and around Greater Manchester. RSPCA Branches will home check for one another. However, anyone interested in adopting one of our animals must meet their new dog before taking him/her home.

Our animals waiting to go to new homes are privately boarded at Standrick Hill Boarding Kennels and Cattery, John Street, Heyrod, Stalybridge SK15 3PU but viewing is by appointment only as a member of the branch needs to be present at the time.

We only accept dogs and other animals from RSPCA Inspectors and as a result many have been subjected to cruelty or neglect by their previous owners.

Our Branch Policies can be found HERE These in no way obviate the RSPCA National Society's rehoming policies which can be found HERE, along with advice on Rehoming a Rescued Dog

Although our branch has a non-destruction policy for dogs and other animals in our care, every year 1000s of dogs in this country are needlessly killed. In the US its estimated that for every human seven cats and dogs are born, its a very similar situation in this country, work it out for yourself there are just not enough homes. If more people neutered their dogs this national tragedy could be prevented.

Nationally, in one year - Over 1.4m phone calls, 183,000 rescues, 82,000 new homes. Only 328 inspectors.

Lilli
is a crossbreed about 6 months old and we think she is going to grow up to be medium to large in size. She is currently in a foster home learning the rules, they say she is a lovely dog who has fitted so well into their family life and is doing really well. She loves other dogs is now house trained and learns very quickly. She also loves ….cuddling up whenever she gets the opportunity.

Loki
is a 15 month old German Shepherd Dog (GSD), he is a lovely dog but as he is still a youngster he can be energetic. He loves to play fetch with a ball and has lived with young children however, we are looking for a family with older children simply due to his size.

Loki needs someone who is prepared to carry on his training by joining a training school which uses positive reinforcement methods which will use up some of his energy. This extremely lovely boy is desperate to find his forever home where he can settle down and grow into the brilliant adult he was meant to be.

Brodie
is approximately 5 years old and a crossbreed and came to us to find a new home in November. Brodie has come to us from another rescue and knows how to give a high five and the odd kiss. Best of all he loves to play football as you can see from his photo below and he is looking forward to being given a brand new unbursted football of his very own when he goes to live with his new family.

He is currently living with a foster family and they have found that he is a lovely house dog, very clean and quiet in the home. He does need some training on the lead and more socialising with other dogs who he is fine with walking along side by side but has a few problems with some dogs he meets head on. As a result, we are looking for an experienced family who are confident enough to work with him on this by attending training classes or just by distracting him when this occasion arises. Brodie needs a child free home or one with older teenage children.

Sparky is a 3 year old crossbreed. We have been told he is a Weimaraner/German Shepherd/Collie. Sparky is a lovely boy but because of his owners change in circumstances he has not been getting out like he should do so loves to see people. He has lived with older children and is quite strong on the lead. He is also good with larger dogs but can get a little distressed around smaller dogs. Sparky would suit an active family who are looking for a larger four legged friend. He is neutered, vaccinated and chipped.

Farah is a 3 year old lurcher (probably Greyhound x Saluki x ???) who was abandoned by her previous owner to fend for herself along with 2 other dogs. She was subsequently rescued by an RSPCA inspector and once she had been signed over into RSPCA care came to the branch to find a new home. Our dog walkers have found her to be a really nice girl who gets on well with everyone she meets and walks well with the other dogs on their walks. We are looking for a family for Farah who are used to taller dogs and who will give her confidence in their leadership. Farah means JOY in Arabic and we think that this is what she will bring to any family which adopts her.

REHOMED

Ozzie is a 3 year old Patterdale Terrier who has come to the branch to find a new home because his owner has had to move into rented accommodation with a “no pets rule”. He is a typical lively terrier who gets on well with other dogs and loves to play ball. Ozzie has been found to be house trained and a good boy in the home during the short time he stayed with his emergency foster family.
We are looking for an adult only home or one with children over 8 years of age.

Freya
is a smooth haired crossbreed who came to the branch to find a new family from a North West Pound, where, at just 6 months of age she was about to be put to sleep as her family didn’t claim her. She has a lovely nature but is still quite unsure about new things and will benefit greatly from attending training classes, although she walks well on the lead. Freya is about labrador size and will make a great family dog. We are looking for a family with or without children over 8 years of age simply due to her size and bouncy puppy nature.

Boysie is a 5 year old crossbreed. This lovely boy has come into our care through no fault of his own. He loves people has grown up with children and is good with other dogs. His only fault he does pull on the lead. He is looking for a family that wants to take him on long walks and then give him a cuddle.
