RSPCA Tameside and Glossop Branch

There are approximately 160 Branches of the RSPCA and every Branch is slightly different from its neighbours. Branches operate their own animal welfare programmes, which run "in tandem" with the National Society. Each branch raises its own funds and manages its own affairs. The Tameside and Glossop Branch doesn't employ paid staff but raises money to fund the private boarding of animals brought in by RSPCA Inspectors until they can be rehomed and to help people living in our area and in financial need to access emergency veterinary treatment and neutering for their animals.

We cover a small corner of Derbyshire in addition to Greater Manchester and are able to rehome outside our area, although priority is given to those living in and around Greater Manchester. RSPCA Branches will home check for one another. However, anyone interested in adopting one of our animals must meet their new dog before taking them home.

We only accept dogs and other animals from RSPCA Inspectors and as a result many have been subjected to cruelty or neglect by their previous owners.

Our Branch Policies can be found HERE These in no way obviate the RSPCA National Society's rehoming policies which can be found HERE, along with advice on Rehoming a Rescued Dog

Although our branch has a non-destruction policy for dogs and other animals in our care, every year 1000s of dogs in this country are needlessly killed. In the US its estimated that for every human seven cats and dogs are born, its a very similar situation in this country, work it out for yourself there are just not enough homes. If more people neutered their dogs this national tragedy could be prevented.

Nationally, in one year - Over 1.4m phone calls, 183,000 rescues, 82,000 new homes. Only 328 inspectors.

To arrange to meet one of our dogs

Tel:07954 122 481 (24 hr ansaphone - calls are usually collected after 6pm and before 8am). To make an appointment to view leave your name and a contact phone number, or email us at office@rspca-tameside-glossop.org.uk

Please note that our dogs are in private boarding and/or foster homes you need to ring to make an appointment to meet the dog you are interested in.

Sammy is a 6 year old female crossbreed. This lovely girl loves to be with people, and is good with other dogs. She is a very happy dog who is always wagging her tail and just loves her belly tickling when saying hello.

Sammy needs to be an only dog in her family.

DEE DEE is a Mastiff who is approx 4 years old. This lovely big lumbering girl enjoys being with people, she has lived with another dog but we feel it is time for her to have her own space. This beautiful lady has been with us for a week now and she has melted everyone's hearts she is such a gentle lady who is loving having attention, she really enjoys being out and about with our volunteers. Dee Dee is not coping very well in kennels she seems to be losing weight and cannot afford to because she came into us under weight, at first she can be strong on the lead but soon settles, so she does need a family with big dog experience

Marlow
is a Bulldog cross. He is approx 4 years old. He has lived with another dog but we feel it would be better for him to be an only dog now as he enjoys plenty of cuddles. we have found Marlow to be full of fun he loves nothing more than playing with you and really enjoys a ball. He responds well to commands and even though he looks tough he is a softy at heart. He loves his walks and would do quite a few miles. Marlow is strong on the lead so does need a family with big dog experience.

REHOMED

George
who is a Shih Tzu x Jack Russell Terrier came into branch care because he was fighting the other puppy in his family. He is just 12 weeks of age and a typical terrier puppy, full of life and mischief wanting to explore everything, play with his toys and his foster family's large dog.

He is looking for a family with or without children over 5 years of age as he does have very sharp teeth and is still learning to be clean in the house. He is very clever and will learn quickly but his new family will need to be patient with him and give him time to grow into the brilliant little dog he could be.

George will need someone at home most of the time as he still a baby and needs 4 small meals a day. He uses his crate to sleep in so itís very likely he had one in his previous home.

Clyde is a Black and Tan, approximately 7 year old, German Shepherd. He has come into our care due to his owners ill health. Clyde has soon become a favourite at the kennels, now that he knows them all he is enjoying all the fuss he is getting. Everyone that has come into contact with Clyde has easily fallen in love with him. Clyde would suit a family with no young children just because of his age and he has never lived with children. He walks well on the lead.

Bombay- We have called him Bombay because we think he is a true mix both in breed and colour. Bombay is approximately ten months old and has come into our care due to no fault of his own.

This young man does know some commands, seems house trained and after his initial pulling when he first gets on his lead he walks well. He is still a puppy so does need his training carrying on, and his ears have not yet decided which direction they are going in. He loves going for a walk so would suit an active family
