RSPCA Tameside and Glossop Branch

There are approximately 160 Branches of the RSPCA and every Branch is slightly different from its neighbours. Branches operate their own animal welfare programmes, which run "in tandem" with the National Society. Each branch raises its own funds and manages its own affairs. The Tameside and Glossop Branch doesn't employ paid staff but raises money to fund the private boarding of animals brought in by RSPCA Inspectors until they can be rehomed and to help people living in our area and in financial need to access emergency veterinary treatment and neutering for their animals.

We cover a small corner of Derbyshire in addition to Greater Manchester and are able to rehome outside our area, although priority is given to those living in and around Greater Manchester. RSPCA Branches will home check for one another. However, anyone interested in adopting one of our animals must meet their new dog before taking him/her home.

Our animals waiting to go to new homes are privately boarded at MyPetStop in Denton, Manchester (just of Junction 24 of the M60) - click here

We only accept dogs and other animals from RSPCA Inspectors and as a result many have been subjected to cruelty or neglect by their previous owners.

Our Branch Policies can be found HERE These in no way obviate the RSPCA National Society's rehoming policies which can be found HERE, along with advice on Rehoming a Rescued Dog

Although our branch has a non-destruction policy for dogs and other animals in our care, every year 1000s of dogs in this country are needlessly killed. In the US its estimated that for every human seven cats and dogs are born, its a very similar situation in this country, work it out for yourself there are just not enough homes. If more people neutered their dogs this national tragedy could be prevented.

Nationally, in one year - Over 1.4m phone calls, 183,000 rescues, 82,000 new homes. Only 328 inspectors.

Visit our web site for more information and links to 67 Branch Websites around the country

Arnie is an eleven month old Shar Pei cross, who was originally purchased as a pure bred Shar Pei from a local, well known puppy farm outlet. He is quite a shy boy who, typical of his breed, can be a little aloof when he first meets new people and as a result whoever adopts him will need to meet him several times at the boarding kennels we use to gain his confidence before taking him home.

Whilst he was growing up he missed out on meeting people and visiting new places and now needs to start to learn that there is a whole wide world out there with exciting new places to investigate and enjoy.

You can see a short video HERE

Penny is a crossbreed who is approximately 3 years old. She came into our care from one of our Inspectors (8.2.13). Penny has had quite a bad start to life, and her coat was in a bad way when she came into us, but it is slowly growing back. She loves all people and with a slow introduction to other dogs is also OK. She knows a few commands but as we have named her Penny she does look at us as if to say “Who is Penny?” when we ask her to do anything.

Now Penny has been with us a while we can see her personality coming out, and she has a little cheeky side that loves to play, but also loves to have her belly tickled

Sam has come to us to find a new home due to his owners working long hours and this is what they said about Sam:

“Sam is approximately 18 months old medium-sized, castrated dog. We believe him to be an Australian Kelpie cross.

He is a loving, loyal and very clever dog.

He has an excellent temperament around people, including kids. However, he does not like cats.

We are very reluctant to get rid of Sam but he gets lonely when we are out of the house working and feel he would appreciate an owner who has the time for him and can give him the exercise he requires.”

Neal is a crossbreed, who may have some Labrador in his make up, and if you take a close look at his picture you can see him smiling at you. He is approximately 18 months old and has come into our care from another rescue. He is full of life and just wants to play. He would suit an active family who will be prepared to accompany Neal to training classes to ensure he learns what is expected of him to become a model citizen. Neal loves nothing more than long walks and hikes in the countryside and if you enjoy these activities too he would love to meet you with a view to developing a lifelong, happy relationship.

Roxy is a Shar-Pei cross approximately 4 years old. Roxy has been returned to us due to her last adopters’ breakup of their relationship. She is a good all round dog, likes people, is good with other dogs, house trained and walks well on the lead. Roxy is now looking for a forever family. She recently spent a day at the RSPCA’s rehoming centre in Pets At Home, Stockport, and really enjoyed being the centre of attention and meeting lots of new people.

Tiny is approximately 8 years old and a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He is very friendly around people, but sometimes does not like other dogs and as a result Tiny is looking for a confident, experienced “Staffy” family who are prepared to make allowances and to work with him to overcome this.

Tiny is a very cheeky chappy who has this huge big grin that just melts your heart. He is house trained, knows some commands and walks well on the lead and is looking for his forever family.

Lewis is currently in a foster home and doing really well. He is being introduced to many new things and is enjoying it all. He is such a loving young man who gets on well with people and other dogs.

He came along to our Tulip Sunday, Fun Dog Show on the 28th April and had his photo taken so that you can see how well he’s doing with that bit of extra care only a foster home can give….. but all Lewis really wants now is a forever family to call his very own.

Lewis is a 5 month old (approx) Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross. He has not had the best start in life so far and as a result he now needs a family who will show him just how wonderful life can be. He came to us to find a new home from the Greater Manchester Animal Hospital and is currently a little thin, and in need of some extra TLC. Below is how Lewis looked when he came to us
