RSPCA Tameside and Glossop Branch

There are approximately 160 Branches of the RSPCA and every Branch is slightly different from its neighbours. Branches operate their own animal welfare programmes, which run "in tandem" with the National Society. Each branch raises its own funds and manages its own affairs. The Tameside and Glossop Branch doesn't employ paid staff but raises money to fund the private boarding of animals brought in by RSPCA Inspectors until they can be rehomed and to help people living in our area and in financial need to access emergency veterinary treatment and neutering for their animals.

We cover a small corner of Derbyshire in addition to Greater Manchester and are able to rehome outside our area, although priority is given to those living in and around Greater Manchester. RSPCA Branches will home check for one another. However, anyone interested in adopting one of our animals must meet their new dog before taking them home.

We only accept dogs and other animals from RSPCA Inspectors and as a result many have been subjected to cruelty or neglect by their previous owners.

Our Branch Policies can be found HERE These in no way obviate the RSPCA National Society's rehoming policies which can be found HERE, along with advice on Rehoming a Rescued Dog

Although our branch has a non-destruction policy for dogs and other animals in our care, every year 1000s of dogs in this country are needlessly killed. In the US its estimated that for every human seven cats and dogs are born, its a very similar situation in this country, work it out for yourself there are just not enough homes. If more people neutered their dogs this national tragedy could be prevented.

Nationally, in one year - Over 1.4m phone calls, 183,000 rescues, 82,000 new homes. Only 328 inspectors.

To arrange to meet one of our dogs

Tel: 0795 412 2481 (24 hr ansaphone - calls are usually collected after 6pm and before 8am). To make an appointment to view leave your name and a contact phone number, or email us at office@rspca-tameside-glossop.org.uk

Please note that our dogs are in private boarding and/or foster homes you need to ring to make an appointment to meet the dog you are interested in.

Colin is a very smart, small, black greyhound with a white shirt front. He is 5 years of age and a discarded victim of the racing and betting industry. Colin walks well on the lead and will be fine with other dogs once he has met a few who are a bit smaller and fluffier than he is used to.

Just like most greyhounds who have spent their lives in a trainer’s kennels Colin will need to find a family who will understand that he will need a bit of patience to become accustomed to the sights and sounds of daily family life, such as a vacuum cleaner, a washing machine and of course the stairs!

If you would like to meet Colin please don’t hesitate to phone or email the branch, leaving a contact phone number on our answerphone so that our dog rehoming people can ring you to arrange a convenient time for you and your family to meet him.

Max
is an eleven year old Black and White Staffy, who due to his owners’ change in circumstances we have been asked to find a retirement home for him. Max has been looking for a new home since July 2014. He has been neutered and is fully vaccinated. He is a lovely dog, very loving and affectionate and he has been around children since was puppy.

He like lots of attention and plenty of walks. He is fun to be around. He may be older in years but not in himself.

Bruno is a 10 year old Black Lab who through no fault of his own is looking for a new home due to his family’s change in circumstances. He has lived with a 2 year old child so is fine with children but would probably be better as an only dog or with another female, as in the fosterer’s home he is trying to be the dominant male with the fosterer’s own male Lab but is fine with her females. Although 10 he is healthy and loves going for walks with the fosterers much younger dogs.

Bradley the boxer is approximately 5 years old and has the typical goofy, boxer nature. He is a gentle boy who loves people and gets on well with other dogs having previously lived with other large breeds, so he won’t mind sharing with another dog in his new home.

Bradley is looking for a family with Boxer or other large dog experience where he won’t be left alone for more than 4 hours each day as a rule. Bradley has such a nice gentle nature we are looking for a family possibly with children over 8 years of age just because of his size

Lacey
is a 3 year old crossbreed with a shiny, dark brindle coat. She came to the RSPCA to find a new home from an Inspector and has spent quite a long time in kennels waiting for the outcome of her court case. She has now come to our branch to try to find a new home in the North West.

Although Lacey is a little bit nervous when she first meets new people, once she is introduced she likes to be friends and is a lovely, gentle girl. She gets on well with other dogs and doesn’t seem too bothered with cats, so she should settle well into a home where there are other animals in the family.

Lacey knows basic commands such as sit and come but still pulls on the lead until she settles down when out walking. She has been found to be a good traveler, settling down quickly and dozing during a one hour drive. Lacey likes to play with her toys and loves to chase balls.

Jasper the greyhound/lurcher is approximately ten months old. He is a very friendly dog. The kennel staff “He’s a real looker, full of energy.” Jasper is now in foster where he lives with two other dogs and rabbits and birds, and he gets on really well with them, he does not seem bothered by small animals just curious. He is also great with everybody he meets big or small. Jasper just now needs a family to call his own

Cilo the Shar Pei, is 2 years old, and quite a people friendly dog, he is fine with other dogs, good on lead and off the lead, and has lived with a young child and been fine with visiting children. The branch has been asked to rehome him due to a change in his family’s circumstances and as result he is being left for long hours alone in the garden. His original owner has said that he can be left in the house for a few hours without any problem.

We are looking for home without or with with older children who are used to dogs and where he won’t be left for long hours whilst his new family are all out at work or school.

Rosie
seems to have a great deal of Podenco Canario (Canary Islands Hound, Canarian Warren Hound) in her make up. She is approximately 4 years old, is good with other dogs and loves to be around people. She is currently in a foster home and is enjoying the company.

Meg is a petite Jack Russell approx 6-7 years old. This young lady definitely has a mind of her own, and does not mind telling you if she does not like something.

She is currently living in a foster home with a cat and another dog, we feel Meg would be best suited as an only dog as once again she likes her own way. As you can tell by one of the pictures Meg loves watching TV and I am sure if she could she would switch it over to watch what she wanted to. We would not place Meg in a home with children because of her fiesty nature we feel an adult only home would be best

Red
is a 2 year old Mastiff cross. She is a lovely dog and we have been asked to find her a loving new home through no fault of her own. She gets on well with other dogs but is quite boisterous, she is house trained and likes being with people.

We are looking for a family where Red will be the only dog and who have very large dog experience, who understand the needs of such a large dog, and who are willing to continue with Red’s excellent socialisation.

Rocky is a six year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Due to his owners change in circumstances we have been asked to rehome Rocky. He is house trained and loves people, he is good with children but does get a little excited, and as he is not used to other dogs he can react when he sees one.

A family without children or with older children (teenagers or sensible over 10s) preferred.
