Two black spots have appeared on my white dog, one on his tail and the other just a bit higher up. Can any one explain their appearance?

Just to clarify: Are the black spots on his skin, or black hair suddenly appearing?

To be honest that's the kind of thing I'd be ringing the vets for advice on.

I wondered about where the spots were as well. Bichons for example, can have dark pigmentation on their skin that can show through very short hair as spots.

thanks for the replies

The spots are on the skin. I wondered if the spots were caused by a nip from another dog which damaged the skin in that area.
