Barney is a male red and white Staffie and is currently on foster in Blackwood, South Wales.

The Barney Fact File

Dog status: Good but he is boisterous and plays rough so he would need robust friends who have a similar play style
Cat status: Cannot be rehomed with cats
Child status: Good but excitable, can be rehomed with children over the age of 8 who are used to dogs.
House training: Good
Home alone: Fine for short periods, not suitable for full time worker
Basic training: Good but could do with a bit of fine tuning.

Barney is a loving, giving, fun, comical dog. He has so much to offer a new family and all in a pint sized staff package. Barney originally came to us from the pound so we have no history for him. He is now living in foster care and has bloomed into a stunning dog.

Barney is dog friendly, some would say a little over friendly! He could be rehomed as the only dog or with canine company however, the other dogs would need to be playful types (or very tolerant of bouncy young dogs attempting to play with them!). He loves to play chase me chase me and have a good wrestle with other dogs so we would not recommend him with elderly or frail dogs.

Barney cannot be rehomed with cats as he is far too interested in their movements and thinks chasing them is good fun.

Barney adores being out and about in the world and loves his walks with a passion. he will be looking for an active new owner who can give him two good walks per day. He would really suit someone who can take their dog to work with them as he is an inquisitive and active lad, he would like to be out and about for the day with his new owner. He can be left for short periods and is happy however, he does love company so we would not recommend him for full time workers. The beginnings of crate training have begun and he is beginning to get the hang of having his own hidey hole but he is not a huge fan it has to be said.

Barney is a very well natured dog but he does have a cheeky side. He will need secure garden so that he does not take himself off for walkies and he will need a little attention to his basic training. Taking him to training classes or having some one to one help from a trainer would be recommended for his new owner to channel that cheeky fire into productive learning. He is very food motivated (some would say greedy!) and therefore training him should be a doddle.

Barney likes to be busy when he is at home and as he settles down for a snooze or if he is bored he loves to have a good chew on something. Having good quality toys and chews such as rawhide or pigs ears down for him to have access to will be useful.

All Hope Rescue dogs are neutered (if over 6 months), vaccinated, flea treated, wormed and micro-chipped prior to adoption. If a puppy is not old enough to be neutered then this must be carried out at the owner’s expense when old enough, and the relevant form completed by the vet and returned to Hope Rescue. A homecheck will be required, and you will need to come and meet the dog with your own dogs and family. Hope Rescue rehomes throughout the UK. A Pre-Home Interest Form can be downloaded from www.hoperescue.org.uk and should be returned to dogs@hoperescue.org.uk
