Please Ask The Bbc To Tell The Truth About Snip Nua's Death Options

In early 2010 the BBC received many complaints after it featured a racing greyhound called Snip Nua in the popular TV show 'Three Men Go to Ireland'. The show was presented by Grif Ryhs Jones, Rory McGrath and Dara O'Briain. Snip was owned by a syndicate of 16 wealthy members, among which comedian Dara O'Briain was one. What Dara and the BBC forgot to tell viewers was that Snip Nua had been destroyed by the time the show was broadcast. Snip like many other racing greyhounds suffered a broken hock in what was to be her third and final race at Mullingar on the 14th of December 2009.
Hock injuries are common in racing greyhounds and while the injuries are usually career ending they are almost always treatable. In the UK the Greyhound board of Great Britain sanctions the destruction of injured dogs on econonmic grounds ie they are unsuitable to race following injury and in other countries the destruction of such dogs is common practice. The Dublin society for the prevention of cruelty to animals has described the practice as 'tantamout to animal abuse'.

Despite widespread condemnation, concern and hundreds if not thousands of complaints both the BBC and Dara have failed to make any public statement about the incident.

To add insult to injury the BBC recently repeated the Three Men Go to Ireland show on Sunday 26th February 2012 and completely edited out all mention or footage of Snip Nua, shaving 15 minutes off the hour long show.

Sure evidence of a guilty conscience on their part.

We the undersigned, call upon the Director General of the BBC to ensure that the BBC demontrates some integrity and compassion, and fulfils its commitment to UK Licence Fee payers to remain impartial and free of advertising by:

1) Making a public statement notifying viewers of the truth regarding Snip Nua's death prior to the show being aired in December 2009

2) Providing a full and unreserved apology for failing to respond appropriately to the numerous complaints made by members of the public

3) Presenting an unbiased and factual picture of greyhound racing and the cruelty and high incidence of untimely death involved

I have a memory of something about Dara O'briain sparking a lot of complaints some years back regarding a comment he made on the Richard and Judy show - a 'joke' about racing greyhounds being sent to 'barcelona' Im pretty sure it was him, other members may remember better. I remember there being a huge outcry about comment and finding it funny about the fate of my racing greyhounds being sent to spain.
