Welcome to Friends of the Animals RCT

Friends of the Animals is an independent, home based rescue run completely by volunteers. Although based in Wales, Friends of the Animals has helpers and supporters throughout the UK. Friends of the Animals is committed to the reduction in numbers of homeless and unwanted dogs and has a strict policy of neutering all dogs prior to rehoming. Please take some time to learn about us and the work that we do by looking round our site at

OUR ADOPTION PROCESS

Our priority is to find the ideal home for each dog in our care. Because individual dogs’ needs vary greatly, we do not have set criteria for adopters, instead we try to be as flexible as possible, in order to ensure that we can find a perfect match. We do not however re -home where resident dogs are not already neutered/spayed unless this is for health reasons.

If you think one of our dogs may be suitable for your circumstances please complete our pre-adoption form.

Adoption Application

You will be contacted by our adoption coordinator so please be prepared to be interrogated lol.gif If we think you are able to provide the right home we will then arrange a home visit. If this is successful you will be expected to come and meet your dog either in Wales or at their foster home.

If you are interested in adopting Rudy please read about our re homing process and complete a Pre Adoption form (link below) and one of our adoption coordinators will contact you for a chat

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewfor...3d1V1E6MQ#gid=0

Name: Rudy
Age: 15-18 months
Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Can I live with Children: Yes
Can I live with cats: Not tested
Can I live with other dogs:Yes
Fostered In: South Wales

Other Information

RUDY ROO IS LOOKING FOR YOU!!

My name is Rudy and I'm a rather handsome staffie cross and I'm about 15-18 months old so I'm just a baby.

I was taken to what they call a pound and I was there for a few days. I heard them say that I'd be "put to sleep” after 7 days if nobody rescued me. The lovely lady who found me was determined that I was too nice a boy to die so she kept me there as long as she could so she could get me help.

There were lots of nice ladies out there helping to find me a rescue and then my foster mamma said she’d look after me until I found a new home and a nice rescue said they would provide “rescue back up”.

So now I’m living with my foster mamma and foster brother and sister and I’m loving it. Roxi my foster sister showed me where the treat cupboard was just in case mamma forgot and her and Ceejay my foster brother showed me how to tell mamma when I was needing out for the toilet.

Me and Roxi are cheeky. I steal Ceejay’s biscuits and share them with Roxi.

I was really quiet when I got here cos I wasn’t sure what was happening but it’s cool here and I’m coming out of my shell. I’m cheeky, clever, love my food and just love cuddles. Me, Roxi and Ceejay cozy up on the sofa in our fleecy blankie and sometimes mamma has to sit on the floor but most of the time we let her on the sofa so she can have a cuddle too.

I’d love a home of my own. I can live with other dogs but I think it would be really nice if I had a home to myself. I need a wee bit of training so it would be nice to get someone to one time with my new parents. I’ve not met any cats yet so I don’t know if I like them or not and children would have to be old enough to know how to behave around a dog.

I’m very well behaved. I’ve been to the vets a couple of time when I had to get neutered and my injections and I was a model of doggy good behavior.

Do I sound like the perfect pooch for your family? If you’d like me in your life please complete the pre-adoption questionnaire and one of our adoption coordinators will be in contact.

Rudy is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Potential adopters are expected to travel to meet Rudy in his foster home in South Wales.

If you are interested in adopting Izzy please read about our re homing process and complete a Pre Adoption form (link below) and one of our adoption coordinators will contact you for a chat

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewfor...3d1V1E6MQ#gid=0

Name: Izzy
Age: 18 months
Breed: Staffordshire BT
Can I live with Children: Older, kind children
Can I live with cats: No
Can I live with other dogs: Yes
Fostered In: Derby, but can be rehomed anywhere in the UK

Other Information

Cute alert! This is Izzy the sweetest little girl you will ever meet. Little more than a baby, Izzy was abandoned, alone and left to die in the middle of winter. She was taken to the pound but no one came to say she was theirs. Izzy was going to be put to sleep on Christmas Eve but Friends of the Animals RCT saved her.

It’s Izzys time for a new life with a family who adore her.

Izzy is a loving girl, she is at her happiest when being made a fuss of. She adores pats and kisses. Izzy is so clever and loves to please, she is loyal and trusting and will be the most amazing companion for her new family. Izzy walks beautifully on the lead and has the most wonderful doggie manners.

Izzy currently goes to work with her foster mum as she doesn't like being left for over 3 hours on her own. Therefore her adopter should be around most of the time.

Things that clever Izzy already knows....

1.Sit
2. Paw
3. High-five (its very different to paw!)
4. Leave it
5. Wait - this includes manners at the door, waiting for food and waiting when the extendable lead gets to full extension (no pulling!)
6. 'Let's Go' - meaning we can carrying on with what we were doing after waiting!
7. Bedtime - time to settle down and sleep - in her own room downstairs, she never makes a sound except lovely staffy snores.
8. Stokes and fuss only happen when there are four paws on the ground - jumping up is a thing of the past (unless its really, really exciting!!)
9. Going upstairs or on the sofa is by invitation only - its now a free for all (especially after muddy walks!)
10. Fish are friends...not food
11. Food comes in her own special bowl - plates can be left unattended and Izzy makes no attempt to get to them, even when they are at her level.
12. Outside is for Wee’s, inside is for cuddles.

Izzy is looking for her perfect forever home with an adopter who will commit to her on going training. An adopter to give her the love and attention she deserves, a home where she is safe and adored and will never be abandoned again.

Izzy loves children, but would be better off with bigger children as she is bouncy and enthusiastic to be loved and adored. She socialises well with other dogs and is with other dogs at her foster mums work at Dogs for the Disabled. Hopefully some of their training is rubbing off on Izzy as well.

Izzy is vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. She is currently being fostered in Derby and her adopter would be expected to visit her in her foster home.

If you are interested in adopting Star please read about our re homing process and complete a Pre Adoption form (link below) and one of our adoption coordinators will contact you for a chat

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewfor...3d1V1E6MQ#gid=0

Name: Star
Age: 18 Months-2 Years
Breed: Saluki x Greyhound
Can I live with Children: Yes, older
Can I live with cats: No
Can I live with other dogs:Yes
Fostered In:South Wales

Other Information

Beautiful Star the 2 year old Saluki x Greyhound was given her name by Friends of the animals RCT as no one knew if she would survive the terrible cruelty she had faced or she would cross the bridge and become another special star in the heavens.

It is believed that Star was kept locked in a shed, starved, alone and in the dark, abused until her ‘owner’ finally dumped her.

When Star was picked up by the RSPCA she had a broken femur, a dreadful skin condition and was so emaciated that every bone in her poor little body was visible through her skin. It was a miracle that she was still alive.

Maes Glas Vets took the lead with her veterinary care and worked day and night to keep her alive long enough for her to gain the strength to survive the substantial medical treatment she would need. Stars broken leg could not be repaired and so the decision was taken to amputate and give her a chance at life. Despite all of this Star always managed to wag her little tail. Despite her pain she would still reach out her nose to be stroked by the loving veterinary staff and the rescue workers who spent so much time caring for her and praying for her to survive.

Star fought with what little strength she had and came out the other side. Day by day she gained her strength, fought off her skin condition and stood up on her three remaining legs and learned to walk again. When Star was strong enough to leave the vets she moved in with her wonderful foster family who cared for her continually, watching as she began to turn back into the wonderful girl that she is. It is impossible to put into words the joy her foster family felt when she first began to play like a normal healthy pup.

Star has come along beautifully with her foster family. She is playful and silly and loves other dogs, although she does find it hard to stop playing when all of the other dogs have had enough and would carry on playing and bouncing forever if she could. Star is incredibly loving and enjoys a fuss. She is currently living with a foster family with younger children and she very much enjoys their company.

Star is now ready for the beginning of the rest of her life. She is looking for a special home, one that will appreciate her hardships and admire her fight for life. A home that appreciates the fact that sometimes she falls over and can’t walk up and down steps because learning to walk on three legs can be hard. A home that doesn’t mind that she bumps into things because she is so busy bouncing with happiness that she doesn’t concentrate on her surroundings. A home that will teach her all of the good doggie manners that she missed out on as a baby locked alone in the dark.

Can you be the person who gives this girl the dream life she deserves?

Star is vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. Prospective adopters will be expected to travel to meet Star in her foster home in South Wales.

If you are interested in adopting Faith please read about our re homing process and complete a Pre Adoption form (link below) and one of our adoption coordinators will contact you for a chat

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewfor...3d1V1E6MQ#gid=0

Name: Faith
Age: 14 months old (approx.)
Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier x
Can I live with Children:Older children.
Can I live with cats: Yes
Can I live with other dogs:Yes but would need an experience home to do introductions
Fostered In: Bicester, Oxon

Other Information

This Faith the 12 month old Staffordshire Bull Terrier x that came into us from the pound where she had been handed in malnourished and starving. Thanks to our wonderful fosterer she is now up to 15.7kg which is spot on for a dog her size and breed.

She loves to play with her toys but she does tend to destroy them, especially the balls!
She is having lots of training which she enjoys, especially if there is a treat at the end of it! She has learnt to sit and give paw, we are working on stay with the time span expanding daily.

She loves her walks and is very good on lead, if she starts to pull a little if you use the wait command she does as she's told (clever girl)

She is housetraining and sleeps in her crate without a peep all night

She loves human contact, especially children. Her ideal home would be as an only dog, although she does live with cats and could potentially live in home with another dog, but she would need careful introductions and monitoring with an experienced Bull breed home. She would like home that could continue to dedicate the time to her alone on her training and would see her achieve her full potential, she's a little stunner with lots of love to give - could it be you I wonder?

Faith is fully vaccinated, neutered and microchipped and is currently being fostered in Bicester, Oxon but we do rehome all over the UK. It is a requirement of adoption that potential homes visit all dogs in their foster homes.

If you are interested in adopting Blaze please read about our re homing process and complete a Pre Adoption form (link below) and one of our adoption coordinators will contact you for a chat

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewfor...3d1V1E6MQ#gid=0

Name: Blaze
Age: OAP
Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Can I live with Children: Yes, older
Can I live with cats: Not tested
Can I live with other dogs:Yes, older dogs, no young and bouncy
Kennelled In:South Wales

Blaze has been in kennels for over a year waiting to come home to his elderly owner, unfortunately that won’t be happening.

He is probably around 12/13 years old and has a few lumps and bumps that will not be removed, but are not anything to worry about. He is very thin and has muscle deterioration from being in kennels for so long.

He is great on lead although his back legs are a little wobbly, this will change with regular exercise.
He is very gentle and well behaved and would love to be in a quiet home either alone or with another quiet dog.

As we only want to find the perfect home that Blaze can spend the rest of his days, there will be no adoption fee for him and Friends of the Animals RCT will cover all vet costs for him.

He is currently in Kennels in South Wales, but we will help with transport across the UK for the perfect home. Ideally we need to get this poor old boy in a home ASAP. He deserves to be cuddled up on someone’s sofa for the rest of time he has left

Message from Mary Giles one of our oldie fosterers:

QUOTE
I have always had a soft spot for the older dog! I suppose it is because I know the younger ones especially puppies will be easier to find homes for .
Three of my older dogs had lived all of their lives with a previous owner. My heart aches not only for the owner who may have to give up their dog but also for their beloved canine companion. How frightened they must be with this sudden change!
I was sent this poem after Boycie my 17 year old Chihuahua died. He had lived with his past owner for 15 years. The writer is unknown.

"A little old man arthritic and sore,
It seems that I am wanted no more.
I once had a home, I once had a bed
A place that was warm and where I was fed.
Who wants a dog so old and so frail?
Now I sit in a kennel where day after day
The younger ones are chosen and taken away
When I had come to the end of my rope
You saw my face and again I knew hope
You saw past the grey, the legs wobbly with age
You felt I deserved a life beyond this cage.
You took me home, gave me food and a bed.
You gently stroked my tired old head.
I promise to return all the love that you give
To you dear friend, as long as I live.
I may be with you for weeks or for years
We will share many smiles and a few tears.
When the time comes and I must leave
I know you will cry and your heart it will grieve
When I arrive at the Bridge all brand new.
My thoughts and my heart will still be with you
And I will brag to all who will hear
Of the person who made my last days so dear!
Anon!

I have a lovely Maltese called Kimbo who will be 18 in a few weeks’ time.
I have had him for just a year but that little dog is so close to my heart.
He has given me as much happiness as I hope I have given him.
Please do think of taking on an older dog, they have so much to give.
It really is a wonderful feeling knowing that you have helped them in their twilight years. Mary Giles

If you are interested in adopting Mack please read about our re homing process and complete a Pre Adoption form (link below) and one of our adoption coordinators will contact you for a chat

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewfor...3d1V1E6MQ#gid=0

Name: Mack
Age:Two years old
Breed: Jack Russell Terrier
Can I live with Children: Older teenagers
Can I live with cats: No
Can I live with other dogs: Yes
Fostered In: South Wales

Other Information

Mack’s foster Mother describes him as ‘a loveable little boy’. He is definitely a little cutie who is having a lovely time being spoilt by his foster family but he is ready to move on to his forever home and is looking for just the right one.

On first meeting of Mack, he is very nervous and it has taken him several weeks to settle down in his foster home, so any home will need to be prepared to give him time, love and patience initially so he learns that he can trust you and that you are his family once he does you will be rewarded in kind by this lad.

Mack is a 2 year old JRT and is a lovely playful boy, he likes to chase toes, play with his toys and take fun walks. He does think he is a lap dog and adores curling up in your lap for a snuggle. Given the choice Mack would be carried in your arms like a baby, giving you little licks and enjoying the fuss of being babied.

Mack is a wonderful house guest, he is toilet trained and has never had an indoor accident. He is very good on his walks and is learning to walk well on a lead and only pulls a little bit now and then. He is very sociable with other dogs and loves the company of his foster mother’s resident dogs.

Mack is very playful and so will only be homed with older children who are comfortable with a little rough and tumble.

Mack is looking for a home where he will get lots of walks, play and attention. Mack will preferably be homed with a family who have experience of terriers. Mack has woofed at his next door neighbours cats so won’t be homed with them in case he chases. Mack is happy to be left at home for a few hours each day.

Mack is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Prospective adopters will be expected to travel to meet Mack in his foster home in South Wales.
