HULA animal rescue is a registered charity which was formed in 1972, by a local vet. We provide Sanctuary for Dogs, Cats, Rabbits, and other domestic animals until new homes can be found. We also have a number of resident animals including Goats, Pigs, Sheep, Cows & Ponies who are permanently retired here. We operate from a 17 acre site where all of our animals are situated.

HULA Animal Rescue is located approximately two miles from junction 13 of the M1 motorway, and approximately 6 miles to the south of Milton Keynes. We are open to visitors every Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 1pm and 3pm, and on some Public Holidays but please phone to check our opening times on Public Holidays.

If you are interested in applying to adopt one of our dogs, we ask that you visit the sanctuary personally on any Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Friday, Saturday or Sunday between 1pm & 3pm. After an informal chat, if you are still interested, we will ask you to complete an application form and will give you as much information as we are able to about the dog. We then assess each application carefully and aim to pick the most suitable home

If it is, we will then ask you to make an appointment to come along and spend time with the dog (together with any existing dogs and all family members), If this is successful further introductions & a homecheck will be necessary and this will be arranged with the sanctuary management.

Wilson

7 year old cocker spaniel
Looking for very experienced child free home
Could be rehomed with a femal canine companion.

Image

Image

Wilson can be a Jeykll and Hyde character and his behaviour can be unpredictable. He has used aggression in the past to be able to get his own way and has learnt that this is a strategy that can work with people and they will back away and stop what they are doing. He has also learnt to use this strategy when he has something he sees as valuable such as certain treats or toys and even high value resting places like settees.

Wilson's new owner will need to have lived and worked with dogs who can be unpredictable before and be able to manage this safely and work on his issues gradually. He will not be safe to be rehomed with children and we will be seeking an adult only home.

Wilson needs to have his brain engaged with spaniel activities, sniffing, exploring, retrieving etc.

Wilson is castrated, vaccinated and microchipped.

Bubbles
18 month old rottie

Meet Bubbles, he is a bouncy and happy chap who is ready for his new family to find him. Bubbles is looking for an experienced owner who is around most of the day. He can be a little destructive in his kennel, this may just be kennel behaviour or he may chew in his new home, but with plenty of enrichment and exercise we are sure he will get over this habit.

Image

Bubble is a strong boy and will need to find a family who will take him training, we are currrently training him on a gentle leader and this is going well.

Bubbles has mixed well with dogs off lead, he can sometime get excited on lead when he sees another dog. He also appears good with cats, but could only live with a confident cat that is used to dogs.

Bubbles is able to live with a larger female dog and a very confident cat. He can live with children 12 years and over.

Phil is a cuddly, bouncy, fun, silly and very loving boy. He is a german shepherd cross and is around 6 months old. Phil will benefit from some training classes and learning the basics but he is a willing pupil.

Image

Phil would be suitable for a family with children over the age of 10 years. He can be bouncy and exuberant at times so would be best suited with children who are used to larger dogs. Phil can show some nervous behaviour in new situations and with new people. This will need to be worked on with further socialisation in a manner that ensures Phil has good experiences and a positive perception of new things. For this reason we fell he would be best suited to an experienced owner and would possibly not be suited as a first dog.

Image

Phil can be wary of other dogs at first but once he realises they are friendly he can come on a little strong and likes to play in quite an OTT manner. He could live with an older, calm female dog. Phil could live with cats in his new home if they are dog savvy and will stand their ground against his friendly hellos. We feel he could chase a nervous, running cat.

He is a bright dog who will be looking for a lot of mental stimulation. He would like a new owner who is home for the best part of the day, especially in the initial stages of settling in as he may need a reminder of his house training after a spell in kennels.

Misty is an 8 year old german shepherd cross. Misty led a sheltered life before she came in to HULA's care and this means she did not meet many dogs when she was younger. She can bark at other dogs and will dance around on the lead near them. This can be quite off putting for many people as she is a large dog. But Oh boy! What a dog she is with people! You could not ask for a more loving and giving dog. Misty has the kindest heart and she adores people and affection. She will not be looking for an overly active new life. All she is really seeking is a settee to cuddle up to you on and a couple of shorter walks round the block each day. Misty has not known the pleasure of having her own garden to explore off lead in and alongside a couple of short walks she would be happy just to potter on her own we feel.

Image

Now, don't get us wrong, there is a playful and active side to Misty as well........it just has to involve a squeaky toy or a game of find it for her to hunt for hidden treats. This girl just loves to play and learn and has such an active, enquiring mind.

Misty is housetrained but does have something that comes to many older female dogs in that she does suffer from what's known as bitch spay incontinence. She has medication for this added to her food and the issue is no longer an issue.

Could you be the one to look beyond Misty's misdeameanours with other dogs? Are the many benefits of getting to known and love such a generous hearted girl worth the odd bark when out on the lead? We think so.

Harriet
7/8/ years old
Akita

Harriet is a quiet and gentle dog, she can be a little backwards at coming forwards when she meets new people and she takes a little while to get to know you. However, once she knows you she is a very affectionate and loving girl who likes to lean against your leg for a bum scratch. Harriet came in to our care as a stray and we do not have a full history for her for this reason.

Image

Harriet is looking for the quiet life, she would not be suitable for a busy young family and we feel she would prefer an adult only home. She loves to be out and about on walks and likes to sit on a bench and watch the world go by with you. She is currently a little overweight and this is affecting her health. She is on a strict diet and this will need to continue in her new home. Due to her weight gain she has some fat deposits around her face which cause her eyelashes to run her eyes sometimes and she will need a gentle eye bath when they get bad.
Harriet has mixed well with other dogs on lead here at HULA, when off the lead she can be a little assertive and for this reason may be best suited to being the only dog in her new home although she could possibly live with large male companions pending successful introductions here at HULA. Harriet will be looking for a cat free home.
As we do not know if Harriet is used to being left on her own and will therefore be looking for someone who is around for the best part of the day and any time alone be built up gradually.
