You know how we've always said that the dog who is meant to be part of your family will somehow find you?

Well, may I introduce Beano (who may or may not find himself a new moniker) who joined our family yesterday.

Beano is an 8 month old sheltie, a blue merle male. It's too early for pictures but imagine if you will a Fraulein Nora 'mini me'. A very mini me, actually - Beano is only 5.5kg, a titchy little thing, about a third the size of Fraulein Nora. He won't grow much bigger, maybe a few cm and another kg or so.

He came to us as a private adoption, as the other dog in the family couldn't accept the youngster.

Jester's very long collie nose bent ever so slightly out of shape once he realized the little guy was staying - but that's to be expected. Time and lots of cuddles and reassurance should take care of that. This is my 8th 'pack integration' rodeo, so I'm confident we will work it all out.

Beano is pretty much a Tabula Rasa at the moment, but I think I detect a rather Fraulein Nora-esque 'Norty' glint in his eyes, peeking out every once in a while. Interesting times ahead.

Losing Grabby last November was so painful; no dog can ever be replaced, but there is room in the human heart for an infinite number of paw prints. I'm sure Grabby, Puddle, Monsieur Linky, Mr Cabbage, Saint Taffy, and Mr Chile are all smiling down on little Beano.

Oh, two coincidences:

Beano and Fraulein share the same birth date, and they are related. Nora's grandmother is Beano's great great grandmother. Small world, eh?

So please join me in a hearty 'Wilkommen!' to little Mr Beano. wub.gif

Hello little Beano, you lucky chap. I hope you are up to the challenge of Nortyness as you have a hard act to follow wub.gif

Early days yet, but I *think* Mr Beano just might be keen to give a certain Norty Fraulein a run for her money.

I took Jester out for a walk this morning, as extra time with me alone goes a long way to unbending his out-of-shape nose.

Having not had time to youngster-proof the house yet, I put Beano in the guest room, door open but behind the very sturdy baby gate. Nora curled up in her favorite spot in the family room, in sight of Beano just in case he got worried.

Sat on the doorstep a bit, listening for sounds of not wanting to be alone. Not a peep, so Jester and I carried on with our walk.

Came back to the sight of both Nora and Beano sitting pretty together in the family room. blink.gif

How did he get out of the guest room?
Did he go through the bars of the gate? (Sure he's tiddly, but not that small...)
Did he jump over the gate? (The gate is 1 meter, he's only 30cm. That would be a world record jump...)
Was Nora involved the caper? (The gate was still firmly closed...)

'Tis a puzzlement.

Interesting times ahead... lol.gif wub.gif
