Dasher loves people and would play and cuddle with you all day if he gets the chance. He will require some management around other dogs and as such will need to live in an area away from other dogs and will need to wear a muzzle on his walks which he is happy to do. As such he would like a big garden so he can chase his toys and an experienced home that can manage his behaviour around other dogs while having all the benefits of owning such a people friendly affectionate tub of dog.

Dasher came to us from another shelter in Ireland where he was living in a woman’s refuge and as such spent lots of time with lots of people but was never walked and has had little to no socialisation around other dogs. Dasher is very affectionate with people and is a joy to be around, he loves chasing his toys and having a fuss and a cuddle however he has shown some high level aggressive behaviours towards other dogs. Dasher can be quite reactive towards other dogs and will lunge at some if they get too close, and we do feel that if he met another dog there is a high chance that he would bite. Dasher will need a secure garden and owners need to be very aware of their surroundings to prevent him from escaping and bumping into other dogs. On his walks Dasher is happy to wear a muzzle and this will be necessary to ensure that no other dogs come running up to him, we are looking for a home in an area where he will be walked without seeing other dogs.

Dasher is a very friendly dog who loves anyone and everyone, he is good to handle and enjoys being very tactile and close. He enjoys his attention but equally has as much fun and energy for a game of chase or a game of fetch. Dasher loves learning new tricks and he is very food orientated which helps him to learn. Dasher would love to live with children that could play with him and stroke him, but ALL walks will need to be done by adults in the home with no distractions in order to be vigilant to his behaviour around dogs.

Dasher has shown high levels of aggression towards other dogs here and this is something that his owners must be aware of and take caution. Dasher can lunge at some dogs on his walks when in close proximity and if introduced through a fence has shown the intention that he will bite. As such we have taught him to walk happily on a muzzle and his owners must continue this in his new home in case of accidental encounter! This does mean that Dasher will need a secure enclosed garden space and to live in an area away from other dogs. Dasher is very food driven and onsite we have managed to keep his reactivity down to a minimum around dogs with distraction training and proactive management. At a distance of 5-10 minutes Dasher can be moved along, usually without any noise, using his double ring harness. If he is allowed to stare at a dog too long during passing them this is when he will react.

Dasher is looking for a very specialised home and we think that this is out there for him. Aside from his issues with other dogs he is a fantastic dog and will be a joy to own for anyone looking for a companion, a dog to teach tricks to, and a dog to play with in the garden as he ticks every one of these boxes.
