will they forward your dogs records to your next vet?

I'm changing Libby's vet , She has had anal gland problems and sometimes has fits so I would like her clinical history sent to the new one . Do vets do this or does it break some data protection code or they might refuse for some reason?

When we moved house I asked my vet for a copy of the dogs' medical history.

They gave ma computer printout of it.

My new vet found it useful.

We are required by the RCVS code of conduct to send histories to a new vet unless the owner requests otherwise.

Thanks for the replies. smile.gif
I didn't know that, ceri1.
I could just ask for a print out .
I was happy with my vet but I have found out he has a connection with puppy farms so I need to register with another local vet .

I moved vets 6 months ago and the previous vet forwarded n all the vet records for my dogs electronically! I *guess* they used the same system?

Maybe there is a commonly used system?

The previous time I moved the information also forwarded, although unsure if that was done electronically or by paper - but the new vets certainly got all the relevant bits!

In my rescue capacity. I suggest that the new owner gets their vet to request details from the previous owner's vet, and never been made aware that has been refused. I guess that all vets would like to be made aware of history of a dog so to everyone's benefit to pas information on.

Good luck with your new vet.
