Poorly Baxter, Get well soon thoughts needed please Options

Baxter our Toy Poodle had his 4th ectopic cilia operation yesterday. Which is where there is a stray hair growing on the inside of the eyelid, and half way up. To make sure it is removed properly a pizza slice shaped piece of the eye lid has to be removed.
He has been really poorly over night, neither of us got any sleep, he was crying and being sick. Nothing helped him to settle
Phoned the Vet early am and we were told to take him back to the surgery. He has been given a pain killer injection in his leg, which he didn't like
Have to try to get 4 bits of tablets Rimadyl into him, which isn't easy when he doesn't want to eat. Also he has to have 6 lots of ointment put into both eyes each day.
He is feeling very sorry for himself and is still crying .

Come on now Baxter and be a good boy and take your tablets so you can soon be well again. My Charlie is also on tablets he doesn't much like but he is doing his best for his Mum and I know you will for yours. Mags and gang.

Bless him poor little lad, he must be feeling sorry for himself It does always amaze me how quickly they do pick themselves up and get back to normal service though so fingers crossed he is feeling better soon.

my Izzie doesnt handle anesthetics well and is wobbly and crys for about 24hrs after coming around. It makes no difference if its a big op [spay] or a very quick anesthetic as when she injured her foot and being a tough collie screamed the place down when they went near it so they had to knock her out. So perhaps Baxter is having an anesthetic reaction as well as being sore. Poor soul

I have had him sat on my lap nearly all day, he falls asleep sitting up, but as soon as his head drops he wakes up Gave him tiny bit of food at 11am and 4hrs later he bought it back, tried again at 2pm and that has just come back too. He hasn't drank water since before the operation, so I have been getting water into him with a syringe.

Phoned Vets and we have to take him back again

Oh bless him poor little Baxter, sounds pretty ouch to me. Sometimes they can have an adverse reaction to GA. When Jack had his GA last year he was really sick coming home in the Car and strangely enough so was Oli Cat too. This year though, thankfully neither were sick and when mentioned to the Vet he said he had changed supplier of meds which may well have had something to do with it. My little Lulu now at the bridge reacted very badly to GA but with plenty of patience and tlc she eventually came around well, it is very worrying though

Sending loads and loads of positive thoughts and prayers lovely Baxter improves day by day, he has been through a rough time and so have you.

Thankyou ladies

Took Baxter back to the vets on Thursday evening, and the Vet examined him and felt sure it was a reaction to the GA and prescribed, zantac to settle his tummy, he had an injection to stop him feeling and being sick and an ABO injection.

I couldn't help but think that it was something different to a reaction to the GA. So after looking up the injection he had following surgery and then again Thursday morning, I am now thinking it is a reaction to these strong painkiller injections. His behaviour is still strange it's like he is drugged, he is unable to settle or lie down and sleep. He still crys continually (we've had no real sleep since Wednesday night).

The drug is Vetergesic. After Thursdays injection we drove home with Baxter in his crate and it was almost like he was throwing himself around the crate or having some sort of fit. It only lasted a short while, and although we were going to phone the Vets when we got back he seemed ok.

I looked on google and Vetergesic is a Tramadol type drug, which would explain his reaction to it.

Has anybody heard anything about Vetergesic at all ???

Sam had to have a Vetergesic injection every day for 3 days when he was very poorly recently and although it did ease his symptoms and ease his pain I did notice that he seemed very drugged. He actually had a couple of funny turns a few days later, almost like he was having a petit mal seizure.

I feel there was a connection to the Vetergesic.

It's like a lot of drugs there are bound to be some side effects for certain individuals.

Worth discussing with your vet, although some vets will dismiss it our vet did say it could have affected Sam and I was grateful for his honesty!
