Please could someone explain what is happening with this forum.

Is anyone moderating this forum?

Thanks

Koshka is the only mod left on here now, but her powers are limited. No-one has been answered by Ray when they've tried to contact him, so we just carry on.

Yes Carol roxysmum was only full mod and when she switched computers a while back she couldn't remember her password to log back on again and apparently only Ray can sort that out! I've tried to contact him as there are some VERY dodgy links in the Rescues listings but had no response.

Does no one have a phone number or postal address for Ray. Perhaps something has happened to him and that's why he is not around anymore but someone in his family may have access to details needed to get access to the site.

If he is alive and well it's amazing that he has turned his back on DP as he cared enough about dogs and rescue to set up the site in the first place.

I seem to remember Ray wanted to close the forum as he no longer wanted to be involved with it. It may have been he was retiring or something.

People asked for it to stay open so he agreed to leave it running but would no longer take any part in running it.

That was when people were asked to contribute to the running costs of the site which I think gave access to the lounge area.

He must still be paying for the hosting otherwise the forum would no longer be here.

My memory is that those who wanted to, contributed to the funding of the site as Ray was retiring and wanted to cut costs. And hence the 'Lounge' was born.

I have no idea why all the mods left apart from Roxysmum but obviously a result of internal politics

All I know is that DP was no longer the active site it had been but also the site set up in opposition never reached the dizzy heights of DP in it's haydays either. We ended up with two watered down sites .... sad, for the loss of so much expertise in one place. But especially the loss of such wide coverage for rescue dogs looking for homes.

The lounge was going for a long time before Ray retired Ange but, you're right about it being the funding area. After the squabbles started, they decided to let people 'advertise' their small businesses to bring in some extra cash, and it was after that when the other mods started the new site and were banned from DP.

I don't know the reasons for the decisions of all the other mods, but it is a shame there isn't as much support for rescues and other help.

I think Facebook has also contributed to the ending of places like this....loads of rescue work happens through there now....huge wide audience.

I agree, whilst it's sad to see the dedicated forums fall away in reality when you look around The Refuge only has a little chat on these days and Dog rescue world, RHU and RAFA are all now dormant. As the rescues continue presumably those people still involved are now using FB, Twitter etc instead

I belong to a couple of Bichon forums that in their heyday were very very busy. They are both practically dormant now. Sad for those of us who donít do Facebook.

Yes, it's a shame that forums seem to be fizzling out. This one has been a part of my life for many years now. The trouble is that Facebook is so easy to use and put up photos etc. I didn't know anything about the split years ago until after it happened and I didn't stay with the other group for long. It may be a coincidence, but that seems to be the start of the decline.

I fear that the tipping point may have been reached.

I think it was 50/50......the ructions here precipitated the split but there are now many more options out there.
