These two lovely girls - I know we are going to struggle as 12 years old and have to be homed together they are so bonded you could not split them - they are lovely dogs, fit and active now, good with dogs, cats, people - so hoping their forever home comes along thank you for spreading the word..xx

Whippet mixes possibly Collie

Lucky & Penny have come into our care, local dogs in Gloucestershire had been with their family since babies. Unfortunately when we visited to get initial assessment it was very apparent that had not been getting the appropriate care. Both girls had terribly long nails, underweight, Lucky in particular had not been treated for fleas, she had suffered hair lost and her skin has obviously been bothering her for a long time and she could not stop scratching herself raw she was also very under weight and weak, both girls teeth were in a terrible mess too.

They were both put on a high quality food mixed with chicken, vegetables etc, had medicated baths and were treated for their flea infestation, nails clipped and have dental booked in. Very quickly they have put on weight, their fur is shining, Lucky still has a bit to go weight wise but she looks like a different dog to the one that first arrived.

Initially quiet, withdrawn and very worried they took quite a few days to settle, relax and start blooming but once they did its been the most precious gift to watch these two girls change. They love their walks and running over the fields and its pleasure to see them loving life again, its like they are getting younger by day.

The characters you could not wish for more gentle souls, I do not think in all the time they have been with us I have heard a grumble from them. They were worried initially by our dogs but are completely relaxed with them now. The cats they are friendly with and could easily live with cats they have no inclination to chase or harm them. Other dogs as long as they are gentle souls like them. They take food gently from you. They eat from the same bowl, both are house trained not one accident, fine travelling in the car, good off the lead, fine on the lead but I feel they have not been used to walking on the lead so they can weave a bit but its getting better. We work and they are fine being left, nothing negative really. Penny is the brown one she worries about Lucky and is probably the more anxious one of the two and will follow you around and likes to be with you whereas Lucky will take herself off to her bed. Lucky talks to you.

These girls cannot be split up they adore each other and I would rather keep them than split them it would break their hearts so please do not ask. They love their walks and are active so need a home that can walk them twice a day over a field they can run in, they are then happy to snooze away or help you potter in the garden.

Both girls have been checked over by vet and have good hearts and no obvious health problems. They both have had a dental, vaccinations are now up to date, chipped, obviously fleaed, wormed and both girls are spayed.

If you think you can offer these special girls their forever home please email us at starfishdogrescue@hotmail.co.uk for our questionnaire.

New write up for girls as now been with us a month..xxx

Whippet mixes - Penny & Lucky being fostered in Gloucestershire
These two lovely ladies came into our care nearly a month ago - they both celebrated their 12th Birthday on the 12th August this year. Penny (brown one) and Lucky unfortunately have found themselves homeless due to their owner ability to care for them anymore due to ill health. Unfortunately both girls had not been getting their appropriate care and nourishment we feel for quite some time and have needed a lot of special care to get them where they are today. Both had suffered severe flea infestation especially Lucky who had bitten herself raw and was very under weight and weak. Their nails were in terrible way and their teeth. Nearly a month on we have two very different dogs - their skin has cleared up with treatment, their nails trim, they have both had dentals and had the most rotten teeth removed. Both have put on weight, Lucky's fur is now growing back and both girls are now settled and secure.
They are living in a family foster home with 2 other dogs, 2 cats and two older children.

The joy to watch these two girls blossom has been a gift and joy to watch. Their nature is just wonderful, they are sensitive gentle girls but their personalities are coming out more recently, Lucky (Black one) is the joker she talks to you and nags you when its walk time and food time she is so funny, Penny is the more sensitive one, such a gentle girl but out on her walks she is the most active, I think as she was the stronger one and did not suffer as much as Lucky but only in the last few days for the first time Lucky is now playing and chasing over the fields with her sister and the joy to watch this little dog grow in strength, health and happiness is lovely. They get on with the other dogs great and the cats too with no problems at all. They love their walks twice a day over the fields, love their food, very happy to greet visitors and seem to love children too.
This video is the second day of Lucky nearly a month later feeling strong enough and happy enough to play with her sister

Clean in the house, they sleep at night in the kitchen with the other dogs. Travel in the car fine too. These two girls are really bonded and cannot be split we know this will make it difficult but it would be too heart breaking for them to do it.
The home we are looking for would be quite gentle home like them, they could easily live with other dogs but it has to be gentle dogs like them, cats no problems they take no notice so could easily live with timid cats or dog savvy cats. Visiting children would not be a problem. These are two special girls and they deserve a special home . Both girls are spayed, up to date with their vaccinations, chipped, have had recently dentals, health checks, wormed and fleaed. We would not expect the full adoption fee for these girls because of their age but would appreciate a donation towards their costs. Please email us at Starfishdogrescue@hotmail.co.uk for our questionnaire in the first instance.
